REBUILD ILLINOIS - OBJECTIVES AND FUNDING
PURPOSE: Rebuild Illinois is a political action committee organized for the purpose of building a statewide apparatus to help rid Illinois of corrupt leaders and practices. With the long shadow of political pay-to-play scandals, the potential involvement of elected representatives, and influence peddlers like Tony Rezko, voters have become aware of an unfortunate political reality. With increasing voter awareness, Illinois watchdogs against waste and corruption have an opportunity to change Illinois’ political landscape. Rebuild Illinois will put a focused spotlight on corruption and abuse of taxpayer dollars, educate voters, and get them to act in a positive way for change.
Rebuild Illinois is building this statewide apparatus in a new, unique and highly effective way. The new medias are transforming politics. If one considers the impact that figures like Oprah Winfrey and entertainment shows like Saturday Night Live had in influencing the 2008 political agenda, the power of television/viral video production cannot be underestimated. It will take a different model than what has been done to truly upset the applecart in Illinois and restore voter trust.
With initial and sufficient funding, the Rebuild Illinois team will: (1) Organize political candidate and activist training schools, (2) organize voter registration, early voting, and get-out-the-vote efforts, (3) counter voter fraud; (3) produce web ads and viral videos; (3) produce and air TV and radio spots; (4) Strategically develop its website at rebuildillinois.com; (5) organize volunteers and precinct captains, organize rallies, town hall meetings, fundraisers and more to support balanced budgets; oppose wasteful and excessive spending bills; end corrupt bidding contract practices and nepotism.
