REBUILD ILLINOIS PRE-CONDITIONS
FOR U.S. SENATE CANDIDATES
Rebuild Illinois has issued the following initial pre-conditions for candidates pursuing the aforementioned U.S Senate seat and reforming amendments to the current Illinois Constitution for new candidates for any Illinois office:
1. Rebuild Illinois demands that the U.S. Senate seat vacated by now President-Elect Obama be filled by a special election, determined by the majority popular vote of the people of Illinois, and not appointed or determined by any currently seated elected official. Rebuild Illinois rejects the position of Lt. Governor Pat Quinn, who wishes to himself appoint Illinois' new U.S. Senator, a hypocritical reversal of the democratic philosophy he has expressed in all of his campaigns.
2. Rebuild Illinois supports the “Oath of Suitability” requested in a letter by State Representative James Durkin (82nd District) to Illinois Speaker Michael Madigan, dated December 10th, requiring:
“I have not made, nor caused to be made on my behalf, nor have I been directly or indirectly, solicited to perform any payment, promise of payment, inducement or favor in any form, including but not limited to past campaign contributions, offers of employment or services in exchange for consideration of the appointment of the vacant U.S. Senate seat for the State of Illinois. Nor was I aware of any offers made or caused to be made by any and all individuals seeking, contemplating or otherwise inquiring of the appointment to the aforementioned U.S. Senate seat prior to December 9, 2008.
3. Rebuild Illinois is asking Illinois citizens to join with them to demand a moratorium on political nepotism for immediate family and limits on extended family appointments.
Rebuild Illinois also seeks the formation of an independent review board to oversee the bidding and awarding process of state and municipal contracts to begin to overcome the too long accepted “pay to play” culture of doing business in Illinois and the City of Chicago.
